Quang Tri (VNA) – The central province of Quang Tri has approved a project funded by the EU to promote sustainable partnership between smallholder forest owners and enterprises in sustainable forest management in response to climate change.
The project will receive 800,000 EUR in non-refundable aid from the EU via the Medical Committee Netherlands-Vietnam (MCNV) and be carried out by the Association of Quang Tri Smallholder Forest Certification Group over 36 months.
It aims to enhance the engagement of the smallholder forest certification association and sub-associations in sustainably managing forests and monitoring reduction in emission greenhouse gases caused by deforestation, forest degradation as well as payment for forest environmental services.
Another aim of the project is to strengthen the partnership between firms and forest business cooperatives and farmer groups in the supply chains of acacia and tung oil certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Quang Tri is now home to over 22,000 hectares of FSC-certified forests, the largest area of the country. The province aims to increase the area to at least 60,000 hectares by 2030./.
