European Parliament delegation visits Vietnam

The NA Vice Chairwoman spoke highlyof the contributions of EP members to cooperative relations for thesake of peace, stability and mutual understanding in the world.

Phong said that the Vietnamese NA and the EP still see a lot ofpotential for cooperation and Vietnam needs the EP’s assistance inlaw-making and addressing issues relating to commercial disputes.

She suggested the EP and its member parliaments strengthen the exchangeof delegations with Vietnam , thus boosting the sharing of informationand experiences as well as helping Vietnam improve its NA deputies’capacity.

While affirming Vietnam always respects, protects and cares for thelegitimate rights and interests of the people, the NA Vice Chairwomanalso expressed her wish that EP parliamentarians would pay moreattention to studying Vietnam ’s situation in order to support thecountry’s development decisions.

For his part, Wermer Langen expressed his belief that the relationshipbetween the EP and the Vietnamese NA will flourish in the future andsaid the EP is ready to cooperate with the Vietnamese NA.

The EP parliamentarians said that together with economic cooperation,the two sides should strengthen ties in other fields such as cultureand education.

On the same day, the EP parliamentarians held talks with a VietnameseNA delegation led by Chairman of the Committee for External AffairsNguyen Van Son, during which the two sides expressed the wish tofurther their multi-faceted cooperation.

The Vietnamese side affirmed its consistent policy of attachingimportance to an equal partnership and to long-term, comprehensivecooperation with the EU for peace and development in the region and theworld at large.

In addition to boosting bilateral relations, the EP parliamentarianssaid they hoped that Vietnam , as the Chair of ASEAN and AIPA in 2010,would make active contributions to fostering the relationship betweenthe EU and ASEAN.

The EP delegation also worked with Chairman of the NA’s Law Committee Nguyen Van Thuan./.

NA Chairman meets Italy’s Communist Reconstruction Party leader in Rome

Regarding future cooperation orientations, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that the two parties enhance mutual understanding and exchanges, deepen relations in a substantive manner, and promote their roles in strengthening multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. He called for increased people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in culture, arts, education and training, tourism, and locality-to-locality links.

Conversely, Vietnam was China’s biggest trading partner in ASEAN and ranked fourth globally, with two-way trade reaching 256.4 billion USD, up 24.8% year-on-year.
