The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) inked a contract worth 981 million USD for the construction of a thermo-electric plant with Japan ’s Marubeni Corp. on June 1 in Hanoi.
With a capacity of 600 MW, the Nghi Son 1 thermo-electric plant, located in Tinh Gia district of Thanh Hoa province, will provide an annual power output of 3.6 billion kWh.
It will consume about 1.6 million tonnes of local coal and use modern coal-combustion technologies to ensure stable operation as well as environmental protection requirements.
Once the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract becomes effective, the first turbine of the plant will be put into commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2013 and the second will be operational in the second quarter of 2014.
The Nghi Son 1 project is one of two plants of the Nghi Son power centre, part of the national power development scheme for the 2006-2015 period. The project is funded with 85 percent of Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)./.
