Hanoi (VNA) – Police on January 20 launched criminal proceedings against Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), for his suspected violations regarding the Petrochemical and Bio-Fuel JSC – a subsidiary of this group.
Thang, born in 1960, is investigated for the charge of “violating regulations on investment in construction structures, causing serious consequences” under Article 224 of the Penal Code.
The same day, the Ministry of Public Security also launched criminal proceedings against and searched the house of Tran Thi Binh (born in 1958, former Deputy Director General of PetroVietnam) for the same charge. She is also banned from leaving her residential place.
This was the latest move by police while probing into “violations of regulations on investment in construction structures, causing serious consequences” relating to the Phu Tho ethanol factory of the Petrochemical and Bio-Fuel JSC.
The case is still under investigation.
In 2018, Thang was given a total of 30 years in prison for his involvement in two other cases at PetroVietnam.-VNA
