Exploring Vietnamese culture through reading in Belgium

Vietnamese bookcases in Belgium provide not only Vietnamese expatriates but also international friends with an opportunity to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Vietnamese cultural values.

Hanoi (VNA) - Over the past year, the Vietnamese community in Belgium has had access to a growing collection of valuable Vietnamese books, ranging from children’s literature to works for adults, thanks to the establishment of Vietnamese bookcases in local Vietnamese restaurants.

This initiative aims to preserve and promote the Vietnamese language, helping Vietnamese people in Belgium maintain their cultural identity while living far from home.

This is the initiative of Kenh Viet Happiness Station, which has so far established two Vietnamese bookcases in Belgium.

One is located at the Hanoi Station restaurant in Brussels, while the other is housed in a Vietnamese restaurant in Ostende city, more than 100 kilometers from Brussels.

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day (February 21), the Vietnamese bookcase at Hanoi Station received new book additions, further enriching its collection of Vietnamese literature.

The Vietnamese bookcases at local restaurants in Belgium is more than just a reading corner. It is a community space where older generations can share stories about their homeland and unforgettable memories, ensuring that younger generations remain connected to their roots and continue to embrace Vietnamese culture.

Additionally, the initiative fosters interaction among Vietnamese expatriates, providing opportunities to learn from one another, engage with different cultures, and strengthen solidarity and integration within international communities./.
