Hanoi (VNA) - The first national festival of Dao ethnic culture willtake place in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang on September 29and 30.

The Dao ethnic communities from 12 provinces and cities will gather at theevent, a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism representative said at a pressconference in Hanoi on September 21.

The festival, the first of its kind, will feature Dao music, costumes and ritualceremonies, food, and sports, with photo exhibitions and seminars also.

Preparations for the festival are underway with a troupe of some 200 Daoartisans and people. 

One ofVietnam’s 54 ethnic groups, the Dao community has an estimated population of 750,000.They mostly reside in northern mountainous provinces such as Ha Giang, TuyenQuang, Lao Cai, and Yen Bai.

Their main livelihood is farming in rocky areas, weaving, and silver craftmaking.-VNA
