The final rotor of the sixth turbine of the Son La Hydroelectric Power Plant was successfully installed at Vietnam ’s largest hydroelectric project on July 24.
The rotor measures 15.589 metres in diametre, 2.816 metres in height and weighs 1,000 tonnes.
The sixth turbine of the Son La – based plant is scheduled to begin generating electricity in mid September.
Construction of the 37 trillion VND power plant started in December 2005. It is designed to have six turbines with a combined capacity of 2,400 MW.
Once it swings into full operation, the Son La power plant will be the largest in Southeast Asia, generating 10.2 billion kWh a year.-VNA
