Fire raging in U Minh Thuong forest the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang was put under control on late April 5 as 500 firefighters and local people were working tirelessly throughout 8 hours.

It is, however, expected to be ultimately extinguished on April 6.

Around 30 special water pumps were sent to the site while dams were built up to reserve water to fight the fire since the water resources were exhausting.

The fire burnt over 50 hectares of indigo and canebrake forests managed by a local travel company in An Minh Bac commune, U Minh Thuong district.

The cause of the fire is under further investigation.-VNA
