That was the message from Vu Ba Phu, Director of theVietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade whofeels enterprises must get the right certification in order to penetrate theglobal market.
The consumption ofgreen-certified products is becoming a trend in many countries, especially indeveloped ones.
He was speaking at thelaunch of workshop titled “Trade for sustainable development (T4SD) hub in Vietnam” held in Hanoi on March12.
Phu said sustainabledevelopment had become a prime target of most countries in the world as greengrowth tops product demand.
“In Vietnam, green growth has been defined as a strategy toward sustainabledevelopment,” he said.
“In reality, firms applyinggreen technologies would have big opportunities in attracting investment,customers and increasing their value despite of initial challenges.
“This could be anopportunity for Vietnamese financial institutions and businesses when promotinggreen finance, bringing sustainable benefits to community,” he said.
He added that most Vietnamese companies don’t have the correct framework to ‘gogreen’ due to financial restraints and climate change.
This, he said, is thereason the project aims to support firms and help develop more environmentallyfriendly products.
“Catching up to the globaltrend, the commercial project for sustainable development in Vietnam aims to enhancecompetitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises and support them to effectivelyparticipate in the international value chain through grasping and integratingsustainable business strategies,” he said.
The project would beimplemented within two years, focusing on three targets of providing technicalsupports to businesses, sustainable solutions through well-design tools ofInternational Trade Centre (ITC) and guiding them to develop greener products.
In addition, the projectwould also help firms access markets and locate products internationally aswell as helping them access loans.
Nguyen Bao Thoa, an advisor of theproject said capital was one of difficulties developing sustainability becausebusinesses need tens of millions of dollars to change the entire technology,equipment and process.
Therefore, supportingenterprises is an important factor for them to successfully transform fromunsustainable to sustainable development. This capital will be invested intechnology, improving their capacity, awareness and techniques.
The project will also belaunched in HCM City on March 13.-VNS/VNA
