First international school in northwest region launched

The Canadian International School – Lao Cai (CIS – Lao Cai), the first phase, was inaugurated in Lao Cai city of the northwestern province of the same name on January 8.

Lao Cai (VNA) – The Canadian International School – Lao Cai (CIS – Lao Cai), the first phase, was inaugurated in Lao Cai city of the northwestern province of the same name on January 8. 

As the first international schoolin the Northwest, the CIS – Lao Cai will importantly contribute to improving the quality ofeducation and training in the locality and the northwest region in general, creatinga foundation for promoting cooperation between Lao Cai and the Canadian Embassyin various fields, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trinh Xuan Truong said at the school's opening ceremony.

Covering an area of 100,000 sq.m, the construction of CIS – Lao Cai started in October2021 with a total investment of 500 billion VND (21.3 million USD).

In the first phase of the project, the primary and high school campus,an art centre, a creative science centre, a multi-purpose sports facility and an outdoorfootball field. All these facilities will be put into operation from the secondsemester of the 2022-2023 academic year.

CIS  - LaoCai hasbeen authorised by the Ministry of Education of Alberta to teach theCanadian locality’s official general education curriculum. It is the 18th school of Alberta province of Canada in the world. 

Addressing the event, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Shawn Perry Steil expressed his pleasure as theschool uses the curriculum of Alberta as its educational programme, affirming thathis country is a partner of Vietnam especially in meeting the demand for educationreform.

Alberta is currently the province with thehighest quality of education in Canada. According to the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment(PISA), the scores of students in Alberta in science, math and literaryare in the top 10 in the world./.

Vietnam, Japan strengthen cooperation in leadership training

Vietnam Fisheries Society protests China’s unilateral fishing ban in East Sea

The society stressed that the ban is unilateral and unjustified; seriously infringes upon Vietnam’s sovereignty, rights and legitimate interests; violates international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); and runs counter to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

📝OP-ED: Freedom of belief and religion in Vietnam cannot be distorted

Child rights association puts online safety at forefront

Former health minister to stand trial on May 20
