First Italian film week opens in Hanoi

Hanoi (VNA) –
The firstItalian film week in Vietnam was launched in Hanoi on September 20 by the ItalianEmbassy in Vietnam.

The event is part of activities to mark the 45th anniversary of the twocountries’ diplomatic ties.

Three films, namely Perfect Strangers, The Place and A Perfect Family by renowneddirector Paolo Genovese, will be screened in the film week, said ItalianAmbassador Cecilia Piccioni.

The Ambassador hoped the first Italian film week would help Vietnam peopleunderstand more Italy.

Within the frameworks provided by the strategic partnership and the bilateralcultural agreements, the multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam also encompassesthe cinema sector, she added.

She said that after the successful events of the past few months focused onmusic, fashion, literature, education, history and art, the festival will offerVietnamese audiences a glimpse of the renowned Italian film industry.

Over the past few years, Italian Embassyhas organised many relevant initiatives, meetings, round-tables and promotionalevents to bring more Italian movie culture to Vietnam.

In 2016, Italy participated as a countryguest of honour in the Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF).

From now until September 23, the threefilms will be screened at the CGV Vincom Ba Trieu and Kim Dong cinemas. Thefilms will be screened in Italian with English subtitles. Entrance is free.

The two comedies and one drama will drawattention to some of the most dramatic developments of Italian society,focusing on the key values of family and friendship as well as on major humanrelations’ dynamics seen through the lenses of personal expectations.

At a press conference earlier, director Paolo Genovese expressed his glad to joinItalian film promotion activities in the world, including Vietnam.

In the framework of the event, Genovesewill chair a round-table gathering some young Vietnamese film directors,sharing his knowledge and experience.-VNA
