The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital arrived in Thua Thien-Hue province to start a programme to provide eye treatment for poor patients on August 23.
A group of 22 experts from the hospital, the world’s only airborne ophthalmic surgical and training facility, will also give five intensive training courses for 30 doctors from the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue, during its six-day stay.
They will conduct operations and treat 200 patients, including surgery and laser treatment to half of them.
The activity is part of a project funded by the Canadian Government to improve eye care for children in Thua Thien-Hue and other central provinces .
Earlier, experts of the hospital conducted eye operations and provided eye check-ups for patients in Da Nang city of the central region.
Founded in 1982, the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital has conducted 269 programmes in 87 nations. It landed in Vietnam for the first time at Da Nang Airport in October 2006./.
