Former mayor of Hanoi prosecuted for illegally interfering in bidding activities

The Investigation Police Agency under the Ministry of Public Security on July 24 executed a decision on commencing legal proceedings against Nguyen Duc Chung, former Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, for the charge of “abusing position and power while performing duties” in the case related to the municipal Department of Planning and Investment and relevant units.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Investigation Police Agency under the Ministry ofPublic Security on July 24 executed a decision on commencing legal proceedings againstNguyen Duc Chung, former Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, for thecharge of “abusing position and power whileperforming duties” in the case related to the municipal Department of Planning andInvestment and relevant units.

This caseis under the supervision and direction of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption.

Accordingto the Investigation Police Agency, Chung had abused his position and power to illegallyinterfere in bidding activities for the package deal on digitization of business registration documentsin 2016 at the municipal Department of Planning and Investment.

The agency is expanding investigation into the case of “violatingregulations on bidding, causing seriousconsequences” at the department and related units, which was separatedfrom the case occurred at the Nhat Cuong Technic Co. Ltd.

Based on investigation results and collected documents andevidence, the police agency issued a decision to additionally prosecute thecase and take legal action against Chung on the charge of “abusing position and power while performing duties” inline with Article 281 of the 1999 Penal Code.

The decision was approved by the Supreme People's Procuracy./.
