Bejing (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in China on May 3-4 opened a condolencesbook for former President, General Le Duc Anh who passed away late last monthat the age of 99.

Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang,Chaiman of the Steering Committee of the National People’s Congress Li Zhanshu,and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s PoliticalConsultative Conference Wang Yang sent wreaths in memory of the Vietnameseformer leader.

Paying last respects to the deceased, Vice Chairman of the National Committeeof the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Liu Qibao wrote inthe condolences book that the passing of Le Duc Anh is a great loss for bothVietnamese and Chinese peoples, describing him as a friend of the Chinesepeople.

He affirmed that the Chinese Party and State always attach much importance tothe comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam, and want topromote the Vietnam-China friendship collaboration in a practical and stablemanner.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General of ASEAN Lim Jock Hoi, Deputy Secretary-GeneralHoang Anh Tuan and staffers at the ASEAN Secretariat on May 4 paid homage toformer President Anh at the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia.

In the condolences book, Lim expressed his deep sympathies to the Vietnamesepeople over the passing of Le Duc Anh, who made great contributions to thenation’s peace, stability and economic development, particularly in thenation’s joining the ASEAN in 1995. He will be remembered as one of the mostrespected leaders in Vietnam and a leader that gave strong support to theASEAN, the official wrote.
