The “Meet Vietnam 2014” forum was held in Paris on September 23, offering a chance for French and Vietnamese businesses to tighten their cooperation.

The event was organised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and the French Trade Office (UBIFRANCE) as part of a series of events to celebrate the “Vietnam Year in France”.

Addressing the forum, MoIT Deputy Minister Ho Thi Kim Thoa spoke highly of the initiative. She said it provided the chance for participating enterprises to meet and discuss joint opportunities and ways to access markets and financial resources in a bid to expand investment and strengthen exports.

She also highlighted the advantages of investing in Vietnam, an emerging dynamic market in the region. Last year Vietnam recorded an economic growth rate of 5.42 percent. The establishment of an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015 will also reduce the import taxes on most products to 0-5 percent.

The deputy minister called for more investments in transport, garment and footwear, food and agricultural product processing, and energy, especially renewable sources and new energy technologies.

UBIFRANCE’s General Director Muriel Penicaud affirmed that with its technological prowess, France has the capacity to help Vietnamese businesses reinvigorate their technology.

The country is willing to cooperate with Vietnam on energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and agricultural product processing, she added.-VNA
