Four more golds bring Vietnam to 3rd place at SEA Games

National taekwondo team won two more gold medals fulfilling the goal of earning three to four. Previously on Dec. 9, Vietnam snagged two gold medals in the men’s team performance event.

Simultaneously on December 10, the Vietnamese karate team bagged home two gold medals – one in the single’s kata (performance) event by Nguyen Hoang Ngan and the other in the female team event by Nguyen Hoang Ngan, Nguyen Thanh Hang and Do Thi Thu Ha.

In other events, athlete Hoang Anh Tuan lost the gold medal to Setiadi Jadi of Indonesia in weight-lifting.

As of Dec. 10, Vietnamese athletes have won 19 medals, of which six are gold, five are silver and eight are bronze.

The Singaporean sports teams, meanwhile, have earned the same number of medals, but 9 of which are gold. Thailand ’s squads won the same number of gold medals as Vietnam ’s delegation but in total they have 24 medals, including 12 silver and six bronze medals.

Up to thirty sets of medals were awarded on the second competition day, compared to eight in the first day at the regional tournament to athletes of six different sports events, including billiard & snooker, table tennis, karate, taekwondo, swimming, weight-lifting, shooting and mountain bike./.
