Free eye care to Lam Dong’s poor patients

Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF), an Australian non-governmental organisation, has provided free eye check-ups to 530 poor patients in Don Duong district, the Central Highland province of Lam Dong.

The activity is part of its comprehensive eye care project beingimplemented in 15 provinces and cities across the country.

The provincial centre for social disease prevention has coordinatedwith the foundation in building infrastructure, providing medicalequipment, and training staff in order to create better conditions totreat common eye ailments and carry out cataracts surgery.

In the coming time, the centre will continue to conduct eye check-upsfor patients in the local districts of Lac Duong, Da Teh and Don Duong.

The FHF-sponsored project will offer some 100 cataract surgeries in November.

The project in Lam Dong will run until 2016.-VNA

Sharp tobacco tax hike urged to safeguard youths, community health

A 2023 report by the Vietnam Health Economics Association estimated that the total cost of tobacco-related healthcare and economic losses reached 108 trillion VND (4.14 billion USD) annually – equivalent to 1.14% of GDP and five times higher than the budget revenue generated by the tobacco industry.

Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.
