Vietnam has now begun officially exporting its mangoes to the US market, after the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) gave permission for the import of fresh mangoes from the Southeast Asian nation in 2017.
More Vietnamese businesses should be shifting to processing and exporting vegetables and fruits, which has high demand worldwide, Vo Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Gardening Association, has said.
In recent years, many foreign fruit exporters have entered Vietnam to take advantage of local people’s rising popularity of imported fruit in the country.
The export turnover of fruits and vegetables fell 9.9 percent year-on-year to 584 million USD in the first two months of 2019, according to the department of agro-product processing and market development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
With their high demand for agricultural products, the Republic of Korea and Japan offer opportunities for Vietnam to boost export of farm produce, especially fruits and vegetables, Do Quoc Hung, Deputy Director General of the Asia-Africa Market Department, has said.
The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang exported more than 10,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables for more than 17 million USD in 2018, higher than that in the previous years in both volume and value.
