Gas exploitation to begin at White Lion field in 2021

Hanoi (VNA) – Cuu Long Joint Operating Company (Cuu Long JOC) isfocusing its resources to develop the second phase of the Su Tu Trang (WhiteLion oil field) so that it can be exploited in the fourth quarter of 2021.

The White Lion field is located in Block 15-1 of the Cuu Long Basin off thesouthern coast of Vietnam. Due to the field’s complex geological structure, CuuLong JOC is trying every method to extract oil and gas, including long-termtrial exploitation and gas injection pump, while continuing to seek rationaltechnical solutions.

The company is working closely with the PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas),PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) and other partners tonegotiate relevant agreements on the development of the While Lion field toensure effective exploitation.

Earlier, PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas) and PetroVietnam ExplorationProduction Corporation (PVEP) inked an agreement in principal on cooperation indeveloping the second phase of the field.

Under the deal, PV Gas will contribute through PVEP one quarter of theestimated investment of 500 million USD to the phase. Gas from the oil fieldwill be directly delivered to the mainland through the Nam Con Son 2 pipelineproject, with 117 kilometres of pipeline at sea and another 39 kilometres onshore.

White Lion will be the main source of gas for the Dinh Co 2 gas processingplant, which will become operational in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Together with White Lion field development, total oil and gas production isexpected at 52.4 million barrels of oil and consendate and 420 billion cubicfeet of gas, making significant contributions to long-term gas exploitationplan of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group. -VNA
