The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said on July 2 that gas supplies for power generation in the country’s southern region will be cut down this month.

Accordingly, between July 6 and 19, the group will halt the provision of all PM3 gas for the Ca Mau 1 and 2 thermoelectricity plants, with a total capacity of 1,500 MW.

Around 4.7 million cu.m of gas will be supplied for the plants per day in the rest of the month.

Despite the gas cut, the EVN pledges to ensure sufficient supply of electricity for production and daily activities, with a capacity of 22,000 MW.

To maintain safe and stable electricity supply for the country’s socio-economic development, the group asks for increasing the capacity of some hydropower reservoirs with high water levels such as Da Nhim, Tri An, Ham Thuan, Dai Ninh and Dong Nai 3 since the beginning of this month.

In the first half of 2014, the country’s total electricity output reached 61.2 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 9.89 percent. Of which, more than 60 percent served major economic sectors such as industry-construction, trade-services and agro-forestry.-VNA
