The US group General Electric (GE) is considering business expansion in Vietnam after putting into operation the Hai Phong wind turbine factory, a GE senior official has said.
“We are working with many investors to support wind power projects in Vietnam ,” said GE Vice Chairman John Krenicki in an interview with Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper. He added that most investors are ready to implement such projects.
John Krenicki explained that Vietnam has the largest potential of wind energy in the region and that the Vietnamese government is working to establish a concrete legal framework and incentives for investment in wind power, which will further promote the development of the wind energy sector.
Not only in wind power, the group has signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the energy sector with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and a long-term agreement with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) to support Vietnam’s oil and gas industry.
GE has also proposed a long-term strategic cooperation plan with the Vietnamese government in power infrastructure, aviation, oil and gas and health care.
According to John Krenicki, the cooperation programme will open up news prospects for the group to invest in high-tech industries and pave the way for Vietnam to develop human resources and technology.
The wind turbine factory in the northern port city of Hai Phong , the first of its kind in Vietnam , has been built at a cost of 61 million USD. The first phase of the project is expected to churn out over 200 wind power turbines with a combined capacity of 1.5 MW, contributing to meeting the growing demand for power generation equipment to support cleaner energy production./.
