(Source: VNA) Quang Ninh (VNA) – Integrating genderequality into resettlement plans will increase women’s participation in thedecision-making process, not only at the household level but also theinstitutional one, heard an international workshop in the northern province ofQuang Ninh on April 13.
The event was jointly held by the Ministry ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the World Bank (WB) and the UN Entity forGender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Vietnam.
Participants said the development of hydropower,transport and urban projects is one of the main reasons behind the resettlement.In that context, women are most susceptible and could face a high risk ofpoverty.
Shoko Ishikawa, Chief Representative of the UNWomen in Vietnam, said Vietnam’s legal system has progressed in ensuring genderequality.
However, the biggest shortcoming at present isthe rights of land use and access to financial resources and training opportunitiesare unequal between men and women, she noted.

More than 100 participating delegates introduceddifferent resettlement forms in the world and shared a lot of experience in designinggender-inclusive resettlement plans.
