Geneva missions' gathering marks 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos ties

The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and other international organisations on August 16 hosted a get-together with their Lao counterparts in Geneva to mark the 60th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962 – 2022).

Geneva (VNA) – The Permanent Mission of Vietnamto the UN, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and other internationalorganisations on August 16 hosted a get-together with their Lao counterparts inGeneva to mark the 60th anniversary of the twocountries’ diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962 – 2022).

The event also aimed to celebrate the 45th yearof the Vietnam – Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 – 2022).

In her opening remark, Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai,Permanent Representative of Vietnam in Geneva, described the special bond andcomprehensive partnership as a priceless property shared by both countries,saying she expects to see more exchange activities for the two missions toenhance their solidarity.

She urged young diplomats present at the event to inheritwhat their successors have done to further promote the long-standing bilateralrelationship and make it stronger to bring benefits to both peoples.

Lao Ambassador Latsamy Keomany expressedtheir honour and gratitude for joining the gathering. The two missions havebeen coordinating at multilateral forums and in performing their duties inGeneva for years, the Lao diplomat said, adding that it reflects the specialties between the two countries and helps reinforce the loyal friendship betweentheir peoples.

Leaders and staff of the two missions later together enjoyedmusic and dance performances highlighting the Vietnam-Laos ties as well astraditional cuisine./.

Modern criminal justice system proposed under revised Criminal Procedure Code

The revised code proposes more progressive procedural rules to enhance adversarial proceedings, tighten power oversight and better protect human and citizens' rights. It will retain effective existing provisions, amend or repeal outdated regulations, and introduce new procedures to expedite case handling, reduce procedural costs and improve efficiency while ensuring fairness, objectivity and greater protection of the lawful rights and interests of organisations and individuals. Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration. Laos will send a delegation to Vietnam to study preparations for the World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese, scheduled for December 2026.
