Officials in many provinces are making seasonal visits to local Christian communities as Christmas is just around the corner.
Deputy head of the Southwestern Steering Committee Duong Quoc Xuan paid a Christmas and New Year visit to the Long Xuyen Bishop Office, and the Protestant Church in the Mekong Delta An Giang province on December 18.
Xuan and his entourage, including An Giang provincial officials, wished the Catholic and Protestant followers a happy Christmas while commending their solidarity and contributions to local socio-economic development by following the State and Party’s policies as well as responding enthusiastically to patriotic campaigns.
Xuan expressed his hope that the dignitaries and followers will continue to make practical contributions to the country’s development and strengthening the national great unity bloc.
An Giang province is home to 60,000 Catholic and Protestant followers living in 11 districts and towns.
The same day, the People’s Committee of the central province of Quang Nam held a get-together with local Christian dignitaries.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Minh Ca spoke highly of the Christian community’s contributions to local socio-economic development, especially their participation in charitable movements.
The representatives thanked the provincial authorities for supporting them to build three parishes in 2012 and facilitate the followers’ practice of their faith.-VNA
