Hanoi (VNA) - By launching international rail transport in Hai Duong provinve, Vietnam’s import and export goods will be directly connected to the Chinese railway system from Cao Xa Station.

A freight train departing from Cao Xa Station in Hai Duong province debuted on May 2, marking the province's entry into the international intermodal transport route.

According to Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR), following the completion of phase 1 construction and operational commencement, Cao Xa Station will serve as a pivotal node within the rail freight transport network. It will actively facilitate domestic freight movement between Hai Duong and neighboring provinces while serving its role as a crucial link in the international intermodal transport route.

In phase 2, VNR will further upgrade Cao Xa Station to qualify as an international intermodal hub, in compliance with regulations, duty-free sales, warehouse facilities, customs procedural locations, inspection centers, and customs supervision areas.

Following the upgrade, import and export goods can undergo customs procedures at the Cao Xa Station and then be transported via intermodal rail to border gates leading to other countries.

This streamlined process significantly reduces both procedural time and transportation duration.

The inauguration of the freight train from Cao Xa Station marks a milestone in Vietnam’s participation in the international intermodal transport service.

After over two months of renovation and upgrading during phase 1, it underscores the joint efforts of the Hai Duong provincial government and VNR in expediting the implementation of this innovative mode of transportation.

This initiative aims to provide favorable conditions for businesses in Hai Duong province and neighboring regions, facilitating import and export activities and thereby contributing to local socio-economic advancement, emphasised Tuan.

Nguyen Ngoc Canh, Vice Chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC), said with the introduction of international rail transport service in Hai Duong, Cao Xa Station will serve as a direct link, connecting Vietnamese import and export goods with railways of China and other countries on the Asia-Europe railway transport route.

Canh expressed his belief that logistics service providers will have additional optimal rail transport solutions to reduce costs and shipping times, enhance operational efficiency of businesses, contribute to socio-economic development, and foster international cooperation.
