Hanoi’s per capita GDP is expected to reach between 16,000 and 17,000 USD by 2030, according to the future strategy for Hanoi’s socio-economic development, recently approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The strategy lays out targets to achieve an annual GDP growth rate of 12-13 percent for the 2011-2020 period, which will result in a rise to 7,100 - 7,500 USD per capita by 2020.
The city aims to create high-quality services to international standards within an eco-friendly living environment. To achieve this, the city will modernise and create an integrated urban infrastructure, develop top-quality human resources and speed up administrative reforms from 2011 until 2020. The estimated total investment needed to adhere to the strategy will lie between 3,900 and 4,100 trillion VND (180-190 billion USD).
For the 2021-2030 period, the city will spend around 6,500 – 7,000 trillion VND (300 - 320 billion USD) on introducing new technologies, developing the workforce, and building modern infrastructure as well as satellite urban areas to take the pressure off core urban areas.
Hanoi will also gradually apply a model of e-administration in line with the pace of expanding e-government nationwide. The capital’s population is forecast to reach 7.9 – 8 million by 2020 and 9.2 million by 2030./.
