Hanoi: New bridge to be constructed over Red River

The Hanoi People’s Committee has proposed the construction of Me So Bridge, which will connect the city’s Thuong Tin District with neighbouring Hung Yen Province.

Hanoi (VNA)- The Hanoi People’s Committee has proposed the construction of Me So Bridge, whichwill connect the city’s Thuong Tin District with neighbouring Hung YenProvince.

According to thecommittee’s report, presented to the ministries of Transport, and Planning andInvestment, the bridge is expected to cost over 4.8 trillion VND (over 213million USD) and will be built under a build-operate-transfer (BOT)contract.

This was done, followinga proposal of Phuong Thanh Investment and Transport Construction Joint StockCompany and Nguyen Minh Investment and Infrastructure Development Joint StockCompany.

The Me So Bridge overthe Hong (Red) River and two bridge approaches span a total length of13.8km and 17m wide, running from an interchange with National Highway 1 to anintersection with the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway in Van Giang District of HungYen Province.

The bridge andapproaches will form part of Hanoi’s Ring Road No 4.

The time of payback isexpected to be about 22 years and 11 months.

The project is aimed atstrengthening the connectivity between the two expressways of Phap Van-Cau Gieand Hanoi-Hai Phong, to reduce traffic towards the capital city’s inner areaand boost the economic development of Hanoi, Hung Yen and neighbouringprovinces.

In 2015, the authoritiesof Hanoi City and Hung Yen Province agreed with the Ministry of Transport overreporting the project to the Prime Minister in order to seek investmentapproval, under which the transport ministry will be responsible forimplementing the project.

But since then, noprogress has been made on the project.

At a meeting last month,the ministry agreed that the Hanoi municipal government will take charge of theMe So Bridge project.-VNA
