Hanoi is one of the three Asian cities listed as among top travel destinations on the rise by TripAdvisor, which based on reviews from millions of its users.

Hanoi is on the eighth place after Kathmandu (Nepal) and Sapporo (Japan), which are also in Asia.

Among Hanoi’s 85 destinations, ancient streets have received the highest mark of 4.5/5 and such praises as “a must-come place”, “a wonderful destination to wander and go shopping” and “never tired of walking around the area”.

“The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarters, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside, but it hasn't forgotten its past. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city”, said the world’s largest travel website.

This is the second time Hanoi has been listed on the most attractive destinations in the world. Readers of the Smart Travel Asia magazine also selected Hanoi as one of the top ten attractive destinations in Asia in September 2013, reflecting the efforts of municipal authorities and the tourism sector to create a civilised, safe, and friendly tourism environment to attract foreign visitors.

The number of foreigners visiting Hanoi continues to increase despite the slower rise in foreign tourists to other destinations in the country, due in large part to the economic crisis.

TripAdvisor’s Top 10 destinations on the rise include Havana, Cuba; La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica; Kathmandu, Nepal; Jerusalem, Israel; Cusco, Peru; Ambergris Caye, Belize; Sapporo, Japan; Hanoi, Vietnam; Corralejo, Spain and Fortaleza, Brazil.

The list includes the destinations that have received the greatest increase in positive reviews and interest in the last year from the millions of TripAdvisor travellers around the world.-VNA
