Hanoi (VNA) – The Urban Environment Company (URENCO) will raise its waste collection capacity in Hanoi by 50 percent this month to keep the city clean during and after Tet, Vietnam’s traditional New Year holiday.
According to URENCO Director General Nguyen Huu Tien, the firm has adopted a plan from February 1 to 25 to ensure the city’s sanitation during the biggest holiday of the year.
It will increase working shifts and vehicles for collecting and transporting waste by 50 percent in inner Hanoi and along Thang Long and Vo Nguyen Giap boulevards to clean up the large volume of daily garbage during the peak season and leave no waste in residential areas.
The company will also allocate four standby water trucks for fire control and garbage collection upon request and arrange extra garbage dump sites in case of overloading or extreme weather.
It will pay greater attention on cleaning up main streets in the inner districts of Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Hai Ba Trung and Dong Da and the locations of cultural and sport events for Tet festival.
To encourage the staff, URENCO has provided support to those living in difficult circumstances and set up temporary areas for workers to take breaks.-VNA
