(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS)’s chapter in Hanoi willstrive to provide support for 7,000-10,000 disadvantaged people under the 2019Humanitarian Month which was launched in the capital city on May 5.
The launch of the month, themed “Connecting, Sharing, and Spreading”, is partof activities to mark the Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8).
At the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s CommitteeNgo Van Quy affirmed that Hanoi always attaches much importance to socialwelfare work, and taking care of the policy beneficiary families, as well asimpoverished and vulnerable people inside and outside the city.
He particularly hailed the contributions made by the VRSC’s Hanoi chapter to thebuilding of houses for people who rendered services to the nation, and poorhouseholds in 2017 and 2018.
He took the occasion to ask competent authorities to pay more attention to thehumanitarian work, and create favourable conditions for the operation of theVRSC at all levels.
At the ceremony, the VRSC’s Hanoi chapter received more than 15.3 billion VND (661,600USD) donated by benefactors, enterprises and businessmen to help the needy.
An SMS campaign was also launched at the event to mobilise financial sources tosupport the poor in border areas.
Various meaningful activities were organised in the framework of the event,including handover of houses, wheelchairs, bicycles and health insurance cardsto disadvantaged families and students, and honouring humanitarianorganisations and clubs for the contributions to the community.-VNA
