Hanoi rendezvous for Vietnamese US alumni introduced

The Vietnam – US Society (VUS) debuted its Hanoi Club of Vietnamese US Alumni in the capital on July 1, which is expected to strengthen mutual understanding of the two peoples as they look to celebrate 20 years of the normalisation of their relations in 2015.
The Vietnam – US Society (VUS) debuted its Hanoi Club of Vietnamese USAlumni in the capital on July 1, which is expected to strengthen mutualunderstanding of the two peoples as they look to celebrate 20 years ofthe normalisation of their relations in 2015.

The club’smembers, including former students of US-funded exchange and scholarshipprogrammes such as Fulbright and Humphrey, will be able to join inround-table discussions on the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, industry,trade, education, health care, women, leadership and business start-up,to name a few.

They will also have chances of joining socialactivities, such as the 20th anniversary of the Vietnam – US tiesnormalisation, Family Day of Alumni, or exchanges with alumniassociations in France, Sweden, Japan, Singapore, the UK and Belgium,said Deputy Chairman of the club Nguyen Thi Thu Thao, who won the 2004Fulbright scholarship funded by the US Congress.

Speaking atthe event, VUS Chairman Nguyen Tam Chien, who is former Vietnameseambassador to the US, expressed hope that the club’s members will domore for the community progress.

The event was also graced bythe presence of US Ambassador David B. Shear and Vice President of theVietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Nguyen Thi Hoang Van.-VNA
