Hau Giang (VNA) – Hau Giang province is set to takemany concerted measures to establish itself as a typical destination ofwaterway and agricultural tourism in the Mekong Delta.

At a meeting on March 24, Chairman of theprovincial People’s Committee Le Tien Chau pointed out that the tourismindustry of Hau Giang remains modest despite efforts by departments, agenciesand localities. Compared to other provinces in the region, local tourism hasn’trated high and tourism products are still limited.

He asked sectors and localities in the provinceto further enhance connectivity, increase personnel training, improveinvestment attraction and step up promotion activities so as to boost localtourism.

Nguyen Van Hoa, Director of the provincialDepartment of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said effective agricultural modelswill be reviewed in the time ahead in order to pilot their combination withtourism.

Hau Giang will work to develop tourism brands,seek new markets, and coordinate with partners to organise tours linking theprovince with others to attract more visitors. It will also build policies forattracting tourism investment, he noted.

The province hopes tourism will become animportant economic sector by 2025 with 1 million arrivals, including about70,000 foreigners, and over 1.4 trillion VND (58.9 million USD) in revenue.

In 2019, Hau Giang welcomed nearly 1500,000visitors, including some 25,000 foreign travellers, and gained more than 170billion VND in revenue from tourists./.

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).

Vietnamese, Chinese cities to build smart border gate pair

They also consented to promote the development of a cross-border economic cooperation zone through sectoral cooperation at Hai Yen industrial park, Van Ninh international port in Mong Cai; a cross-border e-commerce industrial park; and transport connectivity projects between the two cities including the international railway line from Mong Cai to Dongxing, Bac Luan III bridge, and an auxiliary rough steel bridge.
