HCM City allocates 200 million USD for clean water project

The People's Committee of HCM City recently approved a 4.37 trillion VND (200 million USD) project to construct and manage a clean water supply system in the suburban Cu Chi district.
The People's Committee of HCM City recently approved a 4.37 trillionVND (200 million USD) project to construct and manage a clean watersupply system in the suburban Cu Chi district.

The Saigon WaterInfrastructure Corporation (Saigon Water) will manage the project set tobegin this July and last till December 2019.

The first phase ofthe project, running from now through the end of this year, involves theconstruction of water supply networks linking the Kenh Dong water plantwith Cu Chi and ten other nearby communes.

They will alsoinstall water filtration systems and water metres for each household andalongside water tanks in areas not currently connected to a waternetwork.

Six existing groundwater treatment stations in An NhonTay, Pham Van Coi, Phuoc Thanh, Thai My, Trung An and Trung Lap Hacommunes will undergo renovation and a new Binh My 2 groundwatertreatment station will be built.

The first phase is supposed to benefit more than 98,400 local families in the district.

Whenthe networks are completely connected during the second phase from 2016to 2019, all 53,100 households are expected to have running water andwater meters.-VNA

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.
