As many as 13 people died and 28 others were injured when a blaze burned an apartment complex at No. 1648 Vo Van Kiet street, District 8 of Ho Chi Minh City in early morning of March 23, reported local authorities.

HCM City(VNA) – As many as 13 people died and 28 others were injured when a blazeburned an apartment complex at No. 1648 Vo Van Kiet street, District 8 of HoChi Minh City in early morning of March 23, reported local authorities.

Initial informationshowed that the blaze started at 0:30 from the parking basement between BuildingsA and B of Carina Plaza. Hundreds of people were stuck and rushed to upper storeys.

The Fire Fighting PoliceDepartment of the city sent 34 fire trucks and 200 police to the site tocontrol the blaze and rescue stuck people. One hour later, the fire was undercontrol, but smoke still covered the buildings. Hundreds of people escaped safely.

According to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Huong from the department,most of the 13 victims died from suffocation. Five autos and over 150motorbikes were completely damaged.

Two wanted for abusing religious cover to undermine national unity policy

The fugitives are Di (also known as Siu Di), born in 1941, and Dinh Yum (also known as Dinh Jum or Ba Koih), born in 1963, from Ba Na ethnic minority group in Gia Lai province, and hold Vietnamese nationality. They have been charged under Clause 1, Article 116 of the Penal Code for undermining the national unity policy.
