HCM City (VNA) – The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has asked for more medical staff to support its COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

In a proposal sent to the Prime Minister, the city hopes to receive an additional 5,000 doctors, nurses and technicians, along with 2,000 medical staff serving COVID-19 testing.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health sent 1,936 medical workers from 25 central hospitals, ministries, sectors and health departments of cities and provinces nationwide to HCM City.

Meanwhile, more than 1,600 lecturers and students from medical universities and colleges have also been mobilised to assist the city in stamping out the pandemic.

According to the municipal Department of Health, as of July 23 noon, HCM City had recorded 49,176 COVID-19 infections.

In the morning of June 23, the Military High Command of HCM City started to spray disinfectant in the entire city as part of the efforts to prevent the spreading of the pandemic.
