HCM City begins administering Covid-19 booster vaccine shots

Ho Chi Minh City on December 10 began to administer booster vaccine shots for high-risk groups and people aged 18 and above who had received 2 doses of the vaccine after 6 months.

At the injection site at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry in Go Vap district, around 2,000 people are scheduled to get the third jab. They are medical staff, soldiers, and police who are working on the frontline against the pandemic and those who are at high risk of contracting Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the injection site at the Go Vap District Health Center will give third injections for those who have high risks of infection or underlying medical diseases.

Le Van Hoang, an officer with the Preventive Medicine Center of Go Vap district, HCM City, said: "The drive is expected to take place within a month. According to the plan, we will give third injections to those who are over 50 years old and immunocompromised. The regulations and guidelines on vaccination safety by the Ministry of Health will be strictly implemented."

Additional injections for groups of people at high risk, especially those who directly test, care for and treat COVID-19 patients, or police officers and soldiers, help people feel more secure amid complicated developments of the pandemic.

Tran Thanh Khang, a sergeant of the Mobile Police Regiment under the Ho Chi Minh City Police Force, said: "After a curtain time period, the effectiveness of injections 1 and 2 will gradually decrease. Working on the front line against the epidemic, I feel more secure when I receive the preventive shot."

According to the HCM City Health Department, from December 2021 to June 2022, the city needs more than 6.3 million doses of vaccines of all kinds for additional or repeated injections./.
