HCM City (VNA) – A forum was held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 4 to promote sustainable tourism connectivity between the southern economic hub and the 13 city and provinces in the Mekong Delta.

Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Bui Ta Hoang Vu said the city is a big tourism, culture and economic centre of the country with a population of about 10 million, adding that in 2019, the city aims to welcome 8.5 million foreign and 32.77 million domestic tourists, up 14 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

In the first seven months of this year, it welcomed 4.8 million foreign arrivals, a year-on-year increase of 11.45 percent. The city’s tourism sector has signed cooperation agreements with many cities and provinces nationwide.

As many as 179 projects calling for investment in culture, sports, tourism and entertainment were introduced at the forum.

The Mekong Delta comprises of Can Tho city and the provinces of An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Long An, Soc Trang, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long.-VNA
