Hanoi (VNA) – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh CityParty Committee Nguyen Van Nen has said he is confident that new Chinese ConsulGeneral Wei Huaxiang will make specific contributions to fostering joint worksbetween Vietnam's southern economic hub and Chinese localities.

Hosting the diplomat on June 28, Nen expected him to becomea bridge to link the sides in investment cooperation, people-to-peopleexchange, and experience sharing in population management, traffic organisation,housing development, and innovative start-up.

The Vietnam – China relations always follow a positivedevelopment trend, he stated, adding that their leaders have maintained regularexchanges to boost political trust and expand practical collaboration acrossfields.

For his part, Wei thanked the municipal authorities’ prompt assistancefor the consulate general’s operations so far.

He suggested a series of programmes serving the cooperation betweenthe city and Chinese localities in logistics, smart city, digital economy,infrastructure, and social housing.

The promotion of people-to-people exchange will contributeto reinforcing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership, thediplomat said.

China is currently ranked 18th out of the 116 countries andterritories investing in HCM City with a total investment of about 240 millionUSD. In 2021, the sides’ export turnover hit about 28 billion USD./.

Foreign policy contributes to propelling Vietnam into new era

2024 saw Vietnam significantly expanding its diplomatic activities with numerous partners and at various important multilateral forums and mechanisms. The country’s key leaders conducted a total of 60 external activities, including paying 21 visits to foreign countries and attend major multilateral conferences, as well as hosting 25 delegations of foreign leaders to Vietnam.
