HCM City (VNA)– Ho Chi Minh City hopes for assistance from the US Government and businesses tolocal startup and innovation activities as well as smart city building, saidSecretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Nhan, also a member of thePolitburo, made the statement while receiving a US delegation, led by Ted Yoho,Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific under the US House ForeignAffairs Committee on October 18.

He lauded progress made inVietnam-US relations, saying more and more US investment projects in trade,education and technology are arriving in Vietnam.

HCM City aims toproactively promote trade-investment ties with the US, the official added,hoping that Yoho will continue to support his country’s ties with Vietnam andHCM City.

Expressing delight at thedevelopment of bilateral relations and of the city’s economy, Yoho commended theeffective collaboration between HCM City and US localities in trade, education,and infrastructure.

He said many US firms areinterested in the local market and hoped authorities would create favourableconditions for US companies to study and invest in the market.

The US congressman said theUS is willing to assist HCM City in urban development, especially smart citybuilding.

The US is HCM City’s 10th biggest foreign investor with 350 projects worth more than 640 million USD. US investmentaccounted for a third of total overseas capital poured into the city in thefirst nine months of 2017.-VNA
