Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has urged Ho Chi Minh City to promptly finalise its Integrated Circuit (IC) Industrial Development Programme for 2013-2020 to serve the revolution in information technology.
At a working session with the programme’s insiders on April 9, Nhan suggested the city learn experiences from India, the Republic of Korea and China which have shown good performances in the field.
He highlighted the necessity to identify Vietnamese IC producers’ competitiveness and the adoption of competitive policies to lure leading experts both at home and abroad into spurring the sector’s development.
Nhan’s views were shared by Le Manh Ha, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, who also underlined the creation of an IC market for the industry to grow.
Ngo Duc Hoang, Director of the Integrated Circuit Design Research and Education Centre said the programme aims to enable the municipal IT industry to shift from assembling to manufacturing key components and even complete products, produce components and devices in service of security and defence, and support a robust development of the software industry.
It will include seven projects that cover personnel training, IC business incubation, trial design and production, factory construction, market development and policies for IC development, Hoang said.-VNA
