HCM City vows to support diplomats in promoting foreign relations

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh Citypledges to support and cooperate with new Vietnamese ambassadors and consulgenerals in developing cooperation with countries around the world.

The municipal leaders made thecommitment while receiving heads of Vietnamese diplomatic representativeagencies abroad for the 2017-2020 tenure in the city on June 7.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan called on thenew diplomats to work hard to promote economic, trade and investment cooperationas well as culture and tourism links between Vietnam and the host countries.

He wished the new ambassadors and consul generals a successful working tenure, contributingto strengthening the cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and othercountries.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong briefed thedelegation on the city’s socio-economic development and foreign relations, especiallyin the last five months.

He said the city wants to receive assistance from the Vietnamese diplomatic agenciesabroad to further expand trade and investment cooperation with traditional partnersas well as new potential ones.

The city mayor also called for the diplomats’ support for HCM City inattracting investment from countries in infrastructure and smart urban development.

On behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Vu Quang Minh, assistant to the ForeignMinister and new ambassador to Cambodia, affirmed that new ambassadors andconsul generals will work to foster links between HCM City and foreignlocalities in particular as well as countries and territories in general. -VNA
