Ho Chi Minh City needs support and cooperation with Russia and its localities in science, technology, energy, oil and gas and other fields, said a local official.
Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Le Minh Tri made the statement while receiving visiting Simanovskiy Leonid Yakovlevich, Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy, in HCM City on Nov. 18.
Tri said HCM City had cooperative relations with many Russian localities and a number of projects have been being carried out in both Vietnam and Russia.
As the country’s major economic hub, HCM City needed a highly developed scientific and technological foundation and energy sources, particularly electricity, to meet its economic development requirements, the city official said.
Vietnam, especially HCM City, was interested in a nuclear power plant construction project because of the urgent issue of energy sources for socio-economic development, emphasised Tri.
Yakovlevich said that his visit aimed to further promote cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in energy and oil and gas.
At the working sessions with Vietnam’s relevant agencies, both sides discussed a nuclear power construction project in Vietnam, said Yakovlevich, adding that Russia was ready to exchange and support Vietnam with information, documents and its experience on nuclear power plant building./.
