Authorities should work together to improve the institutional and legal framework to control HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution in the new situation.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong, who doubles as Chairman of the National Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control (NCADP), made the request at a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of establishment of the committee in Hanoi on June 4.

He stated that HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution remain great challenges and latent risks for the country’s sustainable development as they harm security, social order and people’s normal lives.

The Deputy PM praised the NCADP’s achievements over the past 10 years, highlighting its important role in building relevant institutions, strategies, action programmes and plans.

He asked the committee to coordinate with other relevant agencies to continue implementing the National HIV/AIDS Prevention Strategy to 2020 and build programmes and strategies for the next 5 and 10 years.

The committee should strengthen dissemination and education work in order to raise public awareness of HIV/AIDS and take the advantage of international support for the fight against the pandemic, he stressed.

Over the past 10 years, authorised forces have detected 112,495 drug cases and seized nearly 1,885 kg of heroin, 2,543 kg of opium, over 15,000 kg of marijuana and 800,000 bills of amphetamine.

They razed more than 13,900 cases of prostitution with over 47,000 involved people.

Also at the ceremony, Deputy PM Trong pressed the button to launch the NCADP’s website./.
