HCM City (VNA) – Two thirds of approximately 130 Danish investors in Vietnam operate in Ho Chi Minh City, reflecting the potential and attraction of the southern economic hub, said visiting Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen.

He made the remark at a meeting with Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem on October 12.

At the meeting, Liem said Ho Chi Minh City is striving to become a smart city and a major economic and financial hub of the region.

The city welcomes foreign investors, including those from Denmark, to join in its efforts towards sustainable development.

He stressed the willingness of local authorities to facilitate the implementation of the Danish Active House project – the building of the first energy-saving house in Vietnam with funding from Denmark, and make it a highlight of Vietnam-Denmark cooperation.

He said the project will give a boost to joint projects in trade, science and technology between HCM City and Denmark.

For his part, Jensen said businesses from Denmark want to enter the local market and are willing to share their experience in developing sustainable urbanisation and well as improving the environment and living standards.

He thanked the local authorities’ commitment to back the Active House project, hoping it will not only a centre for culture exchanges but also the first step in making Vietnam-Denmark more effective.

The same day, Jensen and his entourage visited a plant of Scancom Vietnam Co. Ltd at the Song Than industrial park in southern Binh Duong province. The company, wholly invested by the Danish side, mainly manufactures outdoor woodwork products. It exports an average of 5,200 containers to European markets per year. Scancom reports an annual revenue of 133 million USD, with 80 million USD coming from the plant in Binh Duong.-VNA
