Motorbike helmets were given away to nearly 700 primary school students in Phu Ly city, northern Ha Nam province on May 24.
The initiative, organised by the National Traffic Safety Committee in cooperation with the Vietnam Honda Company, is part of a programme that run by the automobile giant offering 30,000 helmets to children nationwide.
Addressing the event, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang stressed the need for raising traffic safety awareness among children to ensure their safety on the country’s roads.
Since 2007, Ha Nam has seen a significant decrease in the number of traffic accidents, according to Vice Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee, Nguyen Xuan Dong.
As many as 3,000 helmets have been offered to pupils in provincial schools, he added.-VNA
