Hue University fosters brand building in ASEAN

ThuaThien-Hue (VNA) – A delegation of educators from ASEAN of the EuropeanUnion’s Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (SHARE) programmevisited Hue University in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue to conduct institutionalassessments on March 1.

Theuniversity is Vietnam’s sole representative in the pilot institutionalassessments, along with 10 other higher education institutions in eight ASEAN countries.

Assoc.Prof., Dr Huynh Van Chuong, Deputy Director of Hue University, said it hasfulfilled 10 criteria of the assessments and focused on student exchange inASEAN and the EU with the credit exchange system. The exchange between ASEANnations and between ASEAN – EU helps to bolster internationalisation of highereducation, he added.

Byparticipating in the assessments, the university hopes to promote its brand inASEAN and learn more about regional and international standards in qualityassurance.

Tencriteria used in the assessments are formed by the SHARE programme, includingprimary responsibility for quality of the institution, balance betweeninstitutional autonomy and accountability and whether quality assurance is aparticipatory and cooperative process across all levels, among others.

Launched in May 2015 by the EU and ASEAN, SHARE aims tostrengthen regional co-operation and enhance the quality, regionalcompetitiveness and internationalisation of ASEAN higher education institutionsand students. SHARE is a flagship project of the ASEAN Education Sector thataims to promote regional harmonisation of higher education.

As many as 30 ASEAN and 10 EU higher institutions participate in SHARE, with fourVietnamese universities of Vietnam National University - Hanoi, HanoiUniversity of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City Technology and Educationand Hue University. -VNA
