As many as 160,035 automobiles were imported to Vietnam last year, up 52.1 percent annually, mostly from Thailand, Indonesia and China, reported the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Auto sales by members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) reached 36,585 units in September, a 45% increase over the previous month, following the implementation of a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically manufactured and assembled vehicles.
Sales of automobiles saw a month-on-month decline of 19 percent to about 21,480 vehicles in August, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturer Association.
Sales of imported automobiles recorded a year-on-year leap of 234 percent to about 32,000 vehicles in the first quarter of this year, announced the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturer Association (VAMA) on April 10.
The price of domestic cars have soared since the beginning of this year due to the Government's adjustment of special consumption taxes on imported automobiles.
