Hanoi (VNA) – Indian daily Times of India on November 1 ran an article by Baladas Ghoshal, a scholar from the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studiesof India, that held that the encroachment of Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone(EEZ) by China’s Haiyang Dizhi 8 vessel clearly impinged on Vietnam’sterritorial integrity and economic security.
The professor also said India must accord the East Sea a higher priority andgreater seriousness in foreign policy, taking into account geo-economicrealities.
India’s strategic ties with countries in the region, especially with Malaysia,Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines, have become stronger underPrime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy.
Thescholar further said India has as much stake inpeace and tranquility in the East Sea as any other regional power such as ASEANmember nations, China, Japan or the US. ASEAN also wants India to take a more activerole in the emerging political, economic and security architecture ofIndo-Pacific and this fits in with New Delhi’s own image as an emerging globalpower./.
