Jakarta (VNA) –
The Indonesian government has assured a sufficient supply of staple foods during the Ramadan festive month of Muslims from May 6 to June 3.

Consumer demand in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, usually picks up during the event, often triggering concerns over inflation.

Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution said relevant agencies have prepared adequate staple foods to meet the rising demand.

Basically, the price of most foods remains unchanged, he said, adding that rice stocks have been supported by the recent harvest.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has granted licences to eight companies to import 115,000 tonnes of garlic at lower prices to meet the domestic demand and stablise prices.

It is also coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and food producers and processors to conduct all necessary measures to control prices during the festive month.

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals said it will ensure an adequate supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on the occasion, especially prioritising areas recently affected by natural disasters.-VNA
