Hanoi (VNA) – More than 6,000 people had to evacuate their houses in the western province of West Java in western Indonesia due to heavy floods, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesperson of the national disaster agency on November 15.
The flooding submerged nearly 6,000 houses, 12 mosques, four schools and over 100 ha of paddy field and affected above 20,000 people, said Nugroho.
Soldiers, police, and local search and rescue personnel have carried out operations to evacuate the affected and deliver necessities to evacuation centres.
Indonesia is frequently hit by floods and landslides caused by heavy downpours.-VNA
